As is customary for adoptive parents, we sent a list of questions to the director of Newday. These questions are general questions about Adrian. Normally these are questions that you expect to get on the day of adoption. However, we are very blessed in our situation. The director had originally told me she wouldn't get them back to me until mid -Oct but to my surprise she returned them in one day. It was a nice bright spot this morning. Here are some of the things that we found out about him. It is so neat how God has chosen him for our family. Those of you who know us really well will know that he fits perfectly.
The name Adrian was given to him by a Canadian group that was volunteering at Newday. It means prosperous. The Christian meaning in the cultural Greek means "Brave, Inherent Warrior for the right."
Ps 16:8 "I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken." The literal meaning in Latin is "black earth". The character quality or Godly characteristic is a "creative heart".
Ps 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart Oh Lord and renew a right spirit within me. "
I have known him as Adrian since the first time I saw him on Newday's site when he was about 6 months
old. Then we prayed for him as Adrian. We just didn't see him as anything else. His Chinese name is Wu Li Ming.
His foster mother calls him MingMing. "Ming" means "bright--wishes for a bright future." We are thinking his official name will be "Adrian Christopher Ming Weekley.
The foods that he is eating now are the following Chinese food: Rice, noodles, dumplings, meat, vegetable, eggs and so on. He eats all his food and is not picky at all. He can feed himself finger foods, as a good appetite, and can use a straw. His favorite foods is all kinds of meat and his least favorite is milk. Must be an Asian thing because the girls don't like milk either , unless of course it is chocolate. He does like green beans, cucumbers, oranges, and bananas.
He sleeps in a crib in the same room as his foster family and they say that they just put him in the crib and he goes to sleep. We'll see how that works out at home :).
His personality is described this way:
"He is a playful, happy boy. Laughs a lot
Likes to play hide-and-seek with the others
Likes to put his hands behind his back and march
Behaves well- he knows the difference between what’s wrong and what’s right.
Likes to listen to music and dance to its beat.
Is very good natured
Is obedient
Recognizes his foster family members
Loves to play outside
Is protective of his toys
Imitates well
Has a good appetite.
Can say three to five word sentences
Walks and runs very steadily by himself
Does he have any likes/dislikes/sensitivities?
He likes outside activities. He likes cars and blocks.
He loves cats and fish
What makes him happy?
New toys like balls .
What is his favorite activity?
Play games with friends
What makes him angry or upset? When he can’t have his own way, he will be upset or angry
Since we have missed much of his firsts, I asked when he started crawling, walking, talking. He crawled at 10 mo, walked at 14 mo, and said his first words at 10 mo. His first word was "baba" --Chinese for father.
What words is he saying currently?
He can verbally express needs. Can point to his facial features and say them. Greetings to others like grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncle. Can indentify animals, fruit, vegetables etc. Can say- take off the socks, shoes, clothes. Ask for water to drink when he is thirsty. Can say three word sentences very well.
And our favorite paragraph of all . "He is very smart. He always likes to help his foster mom with things. When he sees her put on her socks he will bring her shoes to her. He is very protective too. He has a foster brother liangliang who is older than him. But he is always like to help and protect him. Once another friends was over. She pushed liangliang down on the floor. He got up and came to Mingming telling her what she did- he then pushed her. I guess we have to work on that. :>)
When he does something wrong his foster mom will confront him; he will try to sneak away or distract her with a smile. He is strong willed. Sometimes when he can’t get his way he will cry and throw himself on the floor. We are working on this.
He has a good imagination and is creative. He will line up all the slippers and tell his mom it is a train or car line. He uses the blocks to make all different shapes, cars and toys."
And I saved the best for last. HE IS POTTY TRAINED . Their words were "very well".
