An Ice Cream for Mommy


Our county is one of the first in our state to report 2 confirmed cases of the Swine Flu (H1N1 virus). The media hype caused quite a bit of panic so our schools closed for several days. MaiLin's school closed a little longer because it was also a preschool and they felt like it would be best if the little one's were not exposed to anything. So, after it was all said and done, the girls were home from school for a LONGGGGGGG week. We tried not to play with anyone to make sure the kids were not spreading germs from school to school. However during that time MaiLin came down with a cold resulting in a sinus infection (which kept us out of school and additional day). As I said in another post, we have had lots of rain and so we were inside for about a week with no additional outside activities. Can you say CRAZY MAMA!!!! I was so thankful for a day to get outside and play in the sandbox to make ice cream cones, play in the water and "Paint" the driveway and juts get some fresh air. These pic were taken on 5-7-09.

Wow--how amazing!


With Spring always comes new life. We have had so much rain and everything is so lush and green this year. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year as the drab bare trees become full and green again. With Spring also comes the new life of birds. I always enjoy watching them hatch and grow but we always battle doves under our front porch. This means a downpour of bird droppings onto our front porch daily. Chris has to clean it up and does the battle of the birds all season long. This year though the girls discovered a Robin's nest in our playground fort. The eggs were BRIGHT blue and just perfect. What a wonderful Creator we serve to create such perfect things! We followed the birds daily to watch them. I decided to document it for the girls to see. Here is a picture of the nest with two eggs hatched and two left to hatch on 5-04-09.

Then on 5-6-09 the all four had hatched. The scrawny little pink things are the birds. I couldn't get a pic of them holding their mouths open because they were too weak to do it for more than a second. But, anytime they felt the fort move a little, four little beaks popped open for food. LiLi was so worried about them and wanted to feed them. She wanted to know where the Mommy was but I assured her that she was watching closely nearby and was probably out getting food for them.

Then by 5-8-09 they had all hatched and were growing with many feathers. By 5-14-09 there was almost no room in the inn.

On 5-17-09, MaiLin came running in from outside to say that the baby birds were flying. The Mommy flew out of the nest and a baby followed. I hurried outside but it was the last little one to leave the nest. He was sitting on the ground unsure of what to do. He quickly learned as the mama bird watched from a rooftop because after about 5 min, the little birdy (ies) had flown the coupe forever.

Since I've just started this blog, I feel that I need to catch up a bit. Don't worry, I'm not going to start from the beginning. I think I'll just go back a couple of months.
This year for Spring break we spent time going to the Botanical Gardens with friends, play dates, and a trip to the zoo. We made a trip for a homestudy visit with our social worker for our upcoming adoption. We decided to make a day of it and go to the zoo. We had a great day at the zoo but unfortunately we brought home a little prize from the zoo--hand,foot, mouth disease. Both girls had the dreaded virus for 7+ days with high fever and ulcers in their throats. It was loads of fun!

Fin a year ago on 5-26-08

Fin (our pet fish) bit the dust

Well, after many many days of lying on the bottom of the tank, we finally declared that Fin (our pet fish) was D.E.A.D. MaiLin got this fish as a reward for something about a year ago. She promised to feed and take care of him but of course you can probably guess who had to feed the fish. I think that AnnaLi was more interested in him than MaiLin. We were going to do the thing that you do with dead fish and flush him but MaiLin had a fit so we determined that we would bury him in the front flower bed. Chris was a good daddy and buried the fish (much to his dismay). He said a prayer for the fish. I didn't think that either of us were going to make it through the prayer of "He's been a good fish". AnnaLi was a little more torn up by having to tell Fin good-bye. I think MaiLin was glad he was gone so she could get another pet-a dog or a cat. But, she is NOT getting a dog or a cat. We assured AnnaLi that Fin would always be right outside our front door. We'll see how long it takes us to get another fish.

Well this is a first

Well, I've finally entered the hi-tech world (ha ha) of blogging. I decided I better get with it. So, I'm trying this. We are going to use this to keep friends and family updated on our girls and hopefully journal the process for our third adoption journey. Yes, we are doing this ONE MORE TIME.
